Today we are exploring SoLo Craft Fair, based in London, UK and I’m interviewing Catherine and Rebecca who are the founders.
Can you tell me a bit about SoLo Craft Fair?
SoLo Craft Fair curates markets in south London with some of the best independent traders, workshop leaders and entertainers. Their main goals are to support local talent and create a hassle free, enjoyable shopping experience for all of the family (including the dog!). Founded at the end of 2015 by Catherine Dunne & Rebecca Hunter, both born and bred South Londoners.
What makes SoLo Craft Fair special in your view?
We like to make our events an enjoyable day, not only for people walking through the doors but also the stallholders. We have tried to handpick some of the most beautiful, unique venues across South London, so not only are guests wowed by the talented makers but by the location. Our aim is to create an experience for all the family where not only can they pick up some wonderful and unique items but also get their creativity flowing by participating in one of our workshops.
Where and how can people apply to show with you?
If we have open applications, there will be an active 'Become a Stallholder' tab on our website. If the tab is not available, please sign up to our mailing list as we release all trading opportunities there first.
Do you have specific criteria for applications?
We like to keep our stalls as varied as possible. As we receive hundreds of applications per event we ask that the applicant includes a website or social links so we can make sure their items are of high quality and we have a balanced range of items on offer on that day. It isn't an easy task picking from such incredibly talented traders, but those that stand out most to us when choosing are those that present their items well on not only their website but on their social channels as that is normally reflective of how their stall will look on the day. We also try to be as fair as possible and try to give as many people a chance to showcase their work.
Please tell us about your next event...
We actually have two events coming up on 28th September, one in Balham Bowls Club which is our home away from home - we have been running events here since 2016 and absolutely love the venue, it's vintage, quirky and has a great atmosphere. We will have 30 independent traders, a workshop and a kids corner. We will also be back in Dulwich at the beautiful St Barnabas Parish Hall with 50 traders selling incredible handcrafted wares, a bar, kids corner and it's right in the heart of Dulwich Village, one of the most beautiful areas of London to explore.
