How to Build a Successful Craft Business

How to Build a Successful Craft Business

Today on the podcast I want to see if I can help those of you who haven’t yet reached out and show you some of the issues your struggling business has and how to fix them in order to be successful.

I often get asked this question by coaching clients and podcast viewers at the beginning of their journey with me. It’s often asked by someone feeling deflated and frustrated that their craft business isn’t doing as well as they thought or hoped.

As I look into their eyes or read their email, I can sense the desperation in finding an answer that is both simple and transformative, like a magic tap that they can turn on to start the flow of sales.

🌟 The truth is, that that’s a difficult question to answer, not only because businesses vary, but because business owner skills vary widely too. It’s also about their willingness to do what needs to be done to change their fortunes.

Heck, I’ve been there, and I know exactly how they are feeling in that moment… So, let’s dive into what the simple problems are and how to fix them!

Are subscription boxes a fantastic way to make money still?

Are subscription boxes a fantastic way to make money still?

I started my first subscription club back in 2010/11, if I remember correctly and even back then, I knew that subscription boxes were a hot trend among my competitors in the craft industry. Since that time the subscription box market has grown to a whopping 2.6 billion US dollars! 😲 In such a sizable industry is there still room to offer subscription-based product services and make some money? 🤔

🙌 Today on the podcast 🎥🎧 we will explore the idea of subscription-based offers in the craft industry, to seek an answer to understanding if this product service is an idea we could consider for our handmade and craft-based product businesses.

Free delivery guarantee: why sellers are angry with Etsy

Free delivery guarantee: why sellers are angry with Etsy

In early July Etsy’s CEO Josh Silverman wrote a letter to the Etsy seller community about their new free delivery guarantee trial for US customers from July 30th. Detailed in this letter was the idea of their new policy and the incentive that they would give priority search placement to those sellers who took up the free shipping guarantee for buyers who spent $35 USD or more.

As you can imagine since then there has been a huge online debate among sellers expressing their anger and concern at feeling ‘forced’ into making financial decisions about their business in order to remain on Etsy’s platform. 😞

🙌 Today on the podcast 🎧🎥 I want to talk about what the new policy means and lay out options and opportunities I see for Etsy sellers going forward.

How to be MORE EFFECTIVE on social media in LESS TIME!

How to be MORE EFFECTIVE on social media in LESS TIME!

One of the questions I get asked A LOT is how to be more effective on social media in less time.

I totally understand where you are coming from, because if you are anything like me, then the thought of doing yet more marketing is making you feel stressed, overwhelmed and sometimes even sick! That’s because we just don’t know how we can fit ‘more’ into our days especially as better marketing should lead to more sales and more sales means more production.

We have only one pair of hands, right?! So how do we cope with doing more?

Today on the podcast I want to help you tackle that by looking at scheduling social content in a way that will help you feel more in control, more organised and ultimately more effective on social media.

Selling Crafts Online: The 6 Proven Rules You Need to Know About!

Selling Crafts Online: The 6 Proven Rules You Need to Know About!

Selling crafts online used to be an easy game and back when I started in mid-2006, selling my craft products was as easy as listing and crossing my fingers - well almost! Today online retail is much more competitive and so starting a craft business and growing it to make a sustainable income can be challenging.

Here on the blog I want to lay out a guide for the key things I think you need to be doing with your online craft business to make sure it works for you.

Be fearless and join the Craft Biz Incubator now!

I ran a craft business called Sara's Texture Crafts for 11 years before I sold it in 2017. In that time, I learnt a lot, from what not to do (yes, I'm super honest about my mistakes) to exactly what to do to take my business from my original £100 investment into almost 7-figures of turn-over in 11 years... and no crazy hours involved either!

When I first started out it was tough, I had no idea how to run a business, or how to make this thing grow… and I struggled, because there was no guide!

It wasn’t until later when I really started to feel more confident and that was because I had learned what I needed to do, but trial and error, taking courses, reading books and consuming all the free stuff.

I worked out a system of growth for craft businesses that I now teach to others.

I have created the Craft Biz Incubator to help others follow their creative dreams and make their craft a full-time job.
