Your web content strategy must align with your marketing strategy and business goals. More than that, it has to deliver as your online sales rep - a digital version of you.

How you write that copy to convert a site visitor to a lead is crucial. It must be based on solving their core problems with a simple solution. Your copy must have swathes of empathy and good sales technique to hit the mark. That’s where I come in. I’ve worked with several brands to help them deliver more qualified conversions from targeted copy. I can do that for you too.

Here’s how my copywriting

is helping Strafe Creative

Strafe Creative has a network of client-facing service pages and re-targeting pages for PPC ads, all of which need to convert leads. I worked with the marketing team to deliver annual content and web copy audits and rework any outdated or underperforming copy. Things can change a lot for a business in the space of a year, just as they can in SERPs, so it’s important that my audits and changes were thorough and effective.

From my new copy, Strafe has web traffic increases and more pre-qualified lead acquisition from organic sources. Lessening the reliance on complex PPC campaigns.

Sara is fantastic to work with, she’s detail orientated and always considers whats best for us and our clients. She’s taken the time to really understand our business, the tone of voice and our viewpoints. She always diligently researchers before each task too; which makes it easy to brief her in on new work. She’s a joy to provide feedback to and is just one of the nicest people you could have as part of your team, I can’t recommend her enough!

— Ross Davies, Co-founder Strafe Creative Sept 2023.

Other clients gaining better traffic and conversions through my copywriting

I’ve worked across a number of industries delivering copy for websites that needed better conversions. Here are a few of my favourite projects. Press on an image to find out more.

Working with me is simple.

If you send me your brief below, I’ll have a good read-through and come back to you. We can meet online to discuss how your project might work. Once we are agreed, working with me is simple. You choose your service and the time you need from me. You pay the first invoice, and I start work.

I’ll plug myself into your preferred comms channel, whether that’s Slack, email or something else, and I’ll send you updates as I go.

  • Every project starts with an invoice, so prompt payment means your work gets scheduled into my workflow.

Documentation is great if you have it, but I can work around it if you don’t. What documents are you talking about, Sara? I’m asking for access to your

    • Brand style guide

    • Tone of voice

    • Buyer personas

    • Keyword map

    • Project outline

But don’t worry - With each service, I issue a project questionnaire. This is designed to help me understand your brand, your customer and the aim of the work we will be doing together. This is perfect if you haven’t had time to outline a brief for me.

I follow this up with a project call - an opportunity for us to dive deeper and cover any further questions. You can also introduce me to your team. I’m more than comfortable working with teams of people as I am alone in my office.

  • I budget 30 hours for each audit, including a kick-off call, brand and competitor research and studying your internal documentation (brand tone of voice and style guide, buyer personas, keyword maps, etc.).

Audits can be pretty intensive - and I think they should be if you want recommendations that support a positive change.

The great thing about an audit with me is that if you follow through and have me make those changes for you, my prep work is already done!

  • Whether I’m looking at your web copy or your SEO, I start with research. This helps me understand your business, customer, services and competitors well enough to establish where to position your website.

From here, it’s about documenting thoughts as I travel through your site and showing you where improvements could make a big difference.

At the end of each audit, there is a recommendation section. This will give you an actionable to-do list to plan our workload. Of course, I can do all that for you, which can be charged hourly or at day rates.

  • It depends - I know that old chestnut, but here’s why.

There will be several variables to consider:

    • The page itself and projected wordcount

    • The speed of access to necessary documentation and supporting resources

    • The ease of access to stakeholders and department leads

    • If you need me to write the whole page or update to sections (I always recommend one writer across your site, too many voices and styles create a confusing site for visitors)

    • How many drafts are required before sign-off, or the complication of in-house approval processes

Generally speaking, lesser webpages can take around 20 hours, whereas those important brand and pitch-heavy pages can take around 30 hours.

  • Audits require prepayment, as do retainers, which are pre-paid monthly subscriptions by BACs or Direct Debit.

I’m a one-man band, so I don’t offer extended payment terms or negotiate on price, but I can tell you that the average day rate for someone of my experience is £425. I charge £300. Stick that next to the ROI you receive, and it looks like I need to up my prices!

  • I’m pretty flexible and have used everything from Slack to Notion with clients, so if you have a preference, let me know. We can also catch up by good ol’ email too.

  • As a new client, there will undoubtedly be a transitional period between my getting to know you and my knowing you. That means that sign-offs need to reflect this.

Webcopy is always a fluid project and depends entirely on how many stakeholders or departments are involved. The best practice I have found is to submit my best first draft so that we can edit it together; that way, I will learn your process and insights to make future drafts water-tight.

From there, the edits are quick, meaning you have the copy ready to go in a reasonable timeframe.

  • I always see my job as a collaboration. Yes, you are hiring me for my copywriting talents, and I’ll give you that, plus my best advice, but projects evolve, and targets change. That means my copywriting must be flexible enough to accommodate that.

I charge by the hour or at retainer rates, so collaboration (back and forth) is always possible.

  • As a freelancer, my workload week to week naturally varies, and my client base is mostly retainer work. At this stage of my career, I’m lucky enough to say that this means I’m busy most of the time. So it can be difficult to get a fresh opening - but not impossible.
