The "Quick Fix" Content SEO Case Studies - No.5

Welcome to "quick fix" content SEO case study number 5. Today, we will look at a very young, low-authority website. We'll ask how early backlinks can create more marketing opportunities.

The Brief

"How can we do more with what we already have?"

Setting

Last week, one of my clients earned an important backlink from a blog post I wrote on his young website with little authority.

It was an uncited anchor text link and his first backlink of note.

Ok, you're thinking, "That's not special, Sara! Full citations would be better."

Well, give me a moment to explain why this was special and why you should note all your backlinks.

The Quick Fix

Even uncited, this link provides an opportunity.

  1. The publication is one we want to be featured in - the opportunity is to turn awareness into a relationship and a successful article pitch later on.

  2. The guest author fits our target customer - the opportunity is now to connect and build a relationship before exploring a sales pitch.

  3. The article outlines customer pain points - the opportunity is to use that to create more targeted content.

So, even uncited backlinks could provide you with an opportunity. That's crucial when you are starting out.

Having told the client about these spin-off opportunities, he now has something more to work with.

Next Steps

My focus is always to create content with backlink potential, but you have to be realistic; some blog posts will always be more attractive to backlinkers than others.

In this case, the next natural step was to look at the content we had coming up. Fortunately, we are in the middle of a competitor keyword gap and backlink analysis, so I'm leaning heavily into backlink opportunities to enhance my new content ideas.
